Jarnail Singh, a Sikh journalist who acquired a celebrity status after the shoe-throwing incident at a press conference addressed by Home Minister P Chidambaram on April 7, 2009, has exercised unusual caution while narrating the incident that made him a hero for large sections of the Sikh community. It is ironic because the “heroism” for which he was hailed by many Sikh bodies, including the Sikh Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee, was clearly missing when it came to narrating the events that led to the infamous shoe-throwing incident.

Government sets up schedule to provide relief to accident victims
The government on Thursday set a schedule to examine the problems ailing the insurance sector in the field of accident insurance. This comes close on the heels of the Supreme Court suggesting the government to create a special fund for compensating accident victims by charging a cess on sale of petrol or a one-time premium on sale of new motor vehicles.

Piramal Life starts trial of new diabetes drug

Piramal Life Sciences has commenced phase I trial of a new experimental drug molecule P2202 for diabetes metabolic syndrome in Canada. People with metabolic syndrome are at increased risk of coronary heart disease, stroke and type 2 diabetes. P2202 is being developed for the treatment of metabolic disorders. Piramal Life Sciences had submitted the clinical trial application for P2202 to Health Canada, Canada"s regulatory authority. This body has approved company"s application to initiate phase I study of P2202.
